For a study to determine the advantages and disadvantages of low-carbohydrate and high-fat diets, Harvard professor David Ludwig and his colleagues studied a subject group of 164 overweight and obese individuals.
They were divided into three groups and given different diet plans over a 20-week period. These plans were designed to be high, medium and low carbohydrate diets, respectively.

The results of the study which were published in the British Medical Journal, showed that metabolic benefits can indeed be achieved through a ketogenic diet. This involves eating a diet low in carbohydrates and high in fat, and in this way long-term success is achieved.
Nevertheless, the scientists emphasized that a high-carbohydrate, low-fat diet can also help with weight loss. It is important to distinguish individually from person to person what works best for them and their body.
