Does it matter?
The air popping method is one of our favorite ways to make popcorn. As we’ve mentioned, this technique doesn’t use oil or salt (two ingredients often used in pop corn toppings). And best of all, you don’t have to worry about prepping a bowl or spout for pouring.
Using an air popper means keeping enough space to allow only just enough kernels to pop so they remain crisp instead of being mushy. An air popped kernel stays lightly charred around the edges where other kernels got slightly hotter and more quickly charters during frying.
This occurs because with other methods, you can leave the lid up too long before pressing down and getting a pop, burning yourself and your taste buds. With an air popper, this isn’t a problem since you’re not trying to press down hard enough to force the hot air out.
You also don’t need much extra room on the back end to add seasoning or extras like cheese or butter. Because you are simply using the heat from the air to pop the corn, there’s no chance of over-or underseasoning it.
Do people usually do this?
Depending on what food you’re eating, there are different ways of doing it. If you’re watching your diet, you can avoid using butter or syrup in favor of something sweeter (like honey).
If you aren’t paying much attention and just want some snappy, fresh popcorn, try pouring everything but the corn into the pot and heating it up.
The kernels of corn will be slightly more dry before cooking them in oil or water. You can also skip the salt entirely if you really prefer that option.
But by adding salt during the popping process, you get a little extra flavor without any added carbs. Plus, the salty bits stick to the popcorn helping form these delicious “cheeselike” flakes.
These crunchy snacks have all the taste of homemade popped popcorn, except they’re made with ingredients you probably already have.
Popcorn is usually done this way
Although there are several ways to make popcorn, most people use one of two methods – dry popping or wet popping. Dry-popped popcorn is made by taking corn kernels and drying them out (taking away the moisture), then mixing in salt and spices. Wet popping includes not only the boiling process, but also the frying process, which adds oils to the corn flavor.
Popcorn popped using oil will have more oil taste than if it was dried. You can adjust the amount of oil you add depending on your preference.
It is important that you do not overfry your popcorn. Underfrying makes for bitter popcorn, so stick with lightly fried kernels.
