Everyone is talking about how great Pepsi Max’s new flavor is, but did you know that Coca-Cola has been moving away from sugar for years? In fact, they now have almost twice as many sugar-free variants of their products than regular versions.

However, it’s important to note that simply calling something “no sugar” does not make it healthier – package labels are often misleading when it comes to health benefits.

A study done by researchers at Penn State found that compared to plain water, the addition of a simple sugar (10% of our daily recommended limit) helped us feel full longer—but only slightly.

Adding more complex carbohydrates like fruits and vegetables instead enabled us to feel satisfied without feeling bloated, which is why I recommend keeping half your plate fruit or vegetable free for balanced meals.

It also allowed us to spend less time thinking about food, so we ate faster and spent less time sitting eating, which is a healthy habit in and of itself.

Although it is rated as having only 5 calories per 2-ounce serving, people can be addicted to sugar in other ways. One way it affects us is through emulsive eating. This means we eat too much food because we feel that we have to keep swallowing something to make ourselves feel full.

The next time you’re thinking about popping into the restaurant for “just one piece”, remember that your body doesn’t work like this. If you eat enough that you are feeling bloated or tired, then stop! Your body will take care of all these things.

Of course, if you pay attention to what you’re eating and how you’re eating, it won’t cause such havoc with your diet. Avoid foods that are weight gainers, like pasta and potatoes, which contain lots of starch.

And while tomatoes contains chemicals that help reduce inflammation in your body, let yourself enjoy them here and there without forcing yourself to have another every week.

Most people who are concerned about their sugar intake find that Splenda is a great alternative to sugar. However, some studies have shown that the synthetic sweetener can be hard to digest, so if you suffer from digestive issues caused by stress or illness, you might want to avoid it.

As many of you know, Coca-Cola has been using aspartame in Diet Coke and Sprite since 1981. Aspartame is an amino acid that provides sweetness. While most people think there’s no difference between aspartame and regular sugar, this substance is controversial due to concerns over its safety.

In 1965, Congress restricted aspartame to food consumption only, but in 1983 Big Soda forced our hands by pushing for us to reclassify it as “nutrient content not intended for human consumption.”

Due to such actions, health organizations like the American Medical Association consider aspartame to be unsafe. Because of questions surrounding its safety, I’m constantly monitoring how it affects my patients.

Although it has no sugar, you still won’t feel too much like drinking Coca-Cola when you sip your soda. However, one serving of Coke Zero is 2 ounces, which is less than a canofaid beverage. This makes it an excellent option for women looking to lose weight.

It may even have more caffeine than some coffee brands!

If you do decide to try it, make sure you’re allowed to drink alone or that someone will be around if you get hungry. Caffeine can cause headaches and irritability, especially in sensitive people.

Although it’s made with sugar, Coca-Cola Zero is still one of the healthiest drinks out there. Here are all the ingredients you’ll find in a 20 oz bottle:


Green tea (came from 89% arabica beans)

Nectacidne (made with 97% water)

Colorings (including caramel color), which are listed on the ingredient list of most foods, are not an added ingredient; they’re naturally found in many foods. Caramel color gives cookies and other desserts their signature brownish color. Like red dye no 1, it’s a nutrient that our bodies don’t use.

Over time, however, exposing your body to carmel color can be harmful. Both studies and children’s tests have shown that repeated exposure to carmalade could lead to health problems.

That includes kidney disease, like high blood pressure, or could contribute to pancreatic cancer. For these reasons, I recommend we drink turbid coca-cola instead of clear cola, since it has less caffeine.

Turbid cola has a slightly bitter flavor, so if you prefer its taste, you can buy unsweetened versions of each beverage.

It contains sugar

Despite its name, Coca-Cola’s zero-calorie sweetener substitute known as New York Strip does not actually make you feel less hungry. Although it is technically calorie free, your body doesn’t register that information as calories because of the unique composition of the ingredient.

Rather than relying on artificial flavors or additives, this syrup consists of nearly 50 different natural ingredients primarily made from fruits, plants, and trees.

Although there are many similarities between this product and traditional coca cola, there are several important differences including flavor, taste, and nutritional profile.

Specifically, according to their website “due to our enhanced carbonation, which provides a crisp refreshing sensation rather than the heaviness associated with water, we recommend New York Strip be consumed within 30 days of opening.”

However, all things being equal, the longer this beverage remains unopened, the better it will taste. This product also lacks the vitamin C found in regular Coca Cola, but companies often use juice instead to preserve the nutrient.

If you decide to try New York Strip, just one 8-ounce (240-milliliter) bottle could provide more than half your daily value of fiber and vitamins A and C.

Although it is widely believed that Coca-Cola’s new drink, Coke Zero, has no sugar, this claim is not true.

Coke Zero contains approximately 34 grams of sugar per 12 ounce canister (NY Times), which is slightly less than half a gram. The amount of sugar you need to worry about is the number of servings your have in one sitting.

If you eat the entire contents of a can at once, you will be consuming too much sugar. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), women should consume no more than 35 pounds of sugar/person/year, which equals 350 kilos for an adult.

Animal studies indicate that excessive consumption of simple sugars may contribute to unwanted health effects. In addition, increasing evidence suggests that obesity may play a role in some cancers. Thus, reducing sugary beverages may be part of a healthy lifestyle.

However, since humans are biological beings, we need food—and carb-based foods like potatoes and rice—to survive. Moreover, our genetics determine how many carbs we process as fuel, so eating sufficient carbohydrates is essential for health.

Finally, recent research suggests that artificial sweeteners may also lead to weight gain and diabetes risk. For these reasons, although limiting sugar intake is recommended, doing so may cause discomfort in the form of hunger or low blood glucose levels.

Believe it or not, sugar is one of the leading causes of overweight problems in today’s world. Many people love the taste of coke zero, but did you know that their version also comes with several extra calories?

A 12-ounce can (355 ml) of coke zero contains about 102 grams of carbs — made from mostly malt syrup — more than half of which are dietary fiber. This equals 7 grams of sugar.

If you make this as an excuse to drink cola, feel free to skip the fiber! One study found that eating fiber helps keep hunger at bay, so if you’re hungry enough, you may be less likely to consume too much food.

However, do know that those who are obese might want to avoid this beverage entirely.

It has no salt


Most people who like vanilla soda prefer diet versions, so it makes sense that marketers would try to market regular cola as a “diet” option. But do they really cut out the sugar or just add in some artificial sweeteners?

A few years ago, Alyssa wrote about how marketers put added sugars into foods without telling us. We all know that you should only stick to your daily recommended amounts of sugar, but have you ever thought about why it’s listed on the label as zero?It turns out there are two things going on here.

First, because food companies can reduce the amount of sugar inside their products by replacing it with fake sweeteners, someone else can make a claim that their product is ‘zero percent sugar’ while still putting in exactly the same amount of sugar as before.

Second, some brands choose to list the total sugar content including the sugar already in the product itself. So whether we need extra sugar or not, we’re still being told that the product contains eight grams of sugar per serving.
